Snoring is a very common problem but most of us are used to hearing about adults snore and never toddlers. If you are one of the many parents who have a child with a snoring problem, you will want to act right away. Toddler snoring can be a big problem because it can disrupt not only their sleeping but also that of others around them. At least it is a relief to know that there are different treatment options available for your toddler’s snoring problem.
The first step is getting them in to see the doctor. The doctor will be able to perform a few standard tests and make a proper assessment of the situation. Usually doctors’ first concern when it comes to a child this young is that they have sleep apnea. This condition that causes a child to stop breathing several times throughout a sleeping period and can be harmful, never mind frightening to you the parent and the child if they notice.
Setting up a better sleeping schedule for your child is one of the best things you can do to try and deal with their snoring. Children who sleep at random times of the day or night can suffer from an array of different health problems and that includes snoring for one. You can try doing the same thing before putting them to bed at night which will hopefully make a difference. Giving them a bath is always nice and relaxing or try sitting in their bed and read them a book before they go to sleep.
If your child’s snoring problem is particularly bad your doctor may suggest your child tries using a dental appliance. This is just like a regular mouth guard pretty much, only it is used to keep the child’s tongue down while they are sleeping. An unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity can also result in a toddler snoring problem. It can take some time and patience to find something that works but it will be more than worth it in the end.
